3-7-9 Breathing Technique: An Easy Guide
A TCM Treasure 3™-Based Breathing Technique
Practice this breathing technique twice daily, morning and evening, with 36 breaths each session. Each session takes approximately 6-7 minutes, providing a dedicated time for self-care, mindfulness, and visualization.
As you breathe, visualize yourself embarking on a self-healing journey, grounding your mind and body in harmony. This practice encourages mindfulness, helping you cultivate inner balance and resilience as you focus on self-healing.
Step 1: Inhale in 3 Sections
- Focus Areas:
- Lower Belly (Earth): Engage the muscles in your abdomen, grounding your energy.
- Mid-Chest (Humanity): Involve the diaphragm, connecting with your heart.
- Upper Chest and Head (Heaven): Finally, bring the breath to your upper chest and head, along with a good intention, bringing clarity.
Why it helps: This step energizes your body and aligns physical and mental states.
Step 2: Hold for 3-4 Seconds (Scan the 7 Orifices)
- What to do:
- Ears (Kidneys): Focus on your ears, feel grounded.
- Eyes (Liver): Shift focus to your eyes, relax and clear emotions.
- Nostrils (Lungs): Notice your nostrils, release past burdens.
- Mouth: Gather all energy at the mouth, preparing to exhale.
Why it helps: Holding your breath helps connect your inner energy with your senses. You can hold for 7 seconds or shorten the count to 3-4 seconds if that’s more comfortable.
Step 3: Exhale for 9 Body Scans
- Focus Areas:
- Head and Shoulders: Start releasing the breath from your head, and let it flow down to your shoulders.
- Torso: Spread the breath out to the left, middle, and right parts of your torso.
- Thighs and Pelvis: Finally, let the breath reach your thighs and pelvis.
Why it helps: This long exhale helps release tension and balance energy throughout your body.
Benefits:
- Calms the mind
- Energizes the body
- Balances emotions
- Improves focus
